The company may soon replace the existing numeric PIN with an account password. This could make WhatsApp accounts more secure. Like the existing two-step verification settings, this upcoming feature may also be optional.
Password will replace PIN
According to WABetaInfo, a site that tracks WhatsApp developments, the company is working on a new security feature that will allow users to replace their existing two-step verification PIN with a password.
Currently, WhatsApp two-step verification requires a six-digit PIN.
This alleged update will allow users to create stronger passwords by combining both letters and numbers. This is expected to strengthen security, especially for users who conduct financial transactions and share confidential data through the platform.
Two-step verification is an optional feature. Therefore, users who choose not to enable two-step verification will not be affected by this change.
It is being said that this feature is currently in the early stages of development and is not available for beta testing. The company may cancel or change this feature before launch.
Users can manage two-step verification settings in their WhatsApp account. The app offers the option to turn this feature on or off or change the PIN. This can be done by tapping WhatsApp Settings or your profile picture, then selecting
"Turn off or turn on two-step verification" in the Account option. Users can also update the email address associated with two-step verification. It appears that WhatsApp is preparing to introduce several more features to the platform.
