AI Lawyer: Now, legal documents will be created by AI, not humans! Claude's new feature raises concerns
Anthropic previously launched Cloud for Legal in February and has now further strengthened it with a new plugin. Anthropic says that the legal profession is among the fastest-growing cloud adopters.
Anthropic has introduced its AI chatbot, Cloud, into the legal world. The company has launched new legal plugins that will enable Cloud to perform tasks such as document review, legal research, contract drafting, and case preparation.
Anthropic claims these tools are specifically designed for lawyers, law students, and law firms. The introduction of AI could bring about significant changes in the legal industry. Let's learn more about it…
" "Now AI will do legal research and contract work
Anthropic has launched several new legal plugins for the cloud, including tools like Commercial Council, Employment Council, Litigation Associate, and Law Student. According to the company, these plugins will simplify tasks like reviewing legal documents, preparing for deposition, drafting contracts, and legal research.
For example, the Vendor Agreement Reviewer plugin can automatically edit new agreements based on a company's existing contract template.
The NDA Treasurer tool categorizes incoming NDA documents so that important matters can be quickly routed to lawyers. This can reduce both time and costs for law firms.
Cloud will connect directly to the legal platform
Anthropic is now also integrating the cloud with other platforms used in the legal sector. The company has launched connectors that allow the cloud to work directly with platforms like DocuSign, Box, Everlaw, and Thomson Reuters.
Furthermore, the company has also integrated it with AI legal services platforms like Harvey.
The aim is to enable law firms to use the cloud within their existing systems without having to build a separate system. Anthropic's move comes at a time when the legal AI market is increasingly competitive, with several startups achieving billions of dollars in valuation.
Will AI replace lawyers or increase their difficulties?
According to Mark Pike, Associate General Counsel at Anthropic, lawyers are the fastest-growing cloud user after software developers. Over 20,000 legal professionals registered for the company's recent webinar.
Many users on the social media platform X are claiming that AI could replace real lawyers in the future. However, concerns are also emerging about the misuse of AI in courts.
In several cases, lawyers have submitted inaccurate legal documents generated by AI. Last year, a lawyer in California was fined for using an AI document containing false quotations. This has intensified the debate about the power of AI, as well as its responsibility.
