Jio Launches AI Call Agent: Just Say ‘Hey Jio’ During a Call and Let AI Handle Tasks for You

Reliance Jio is taking a major step into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the introduction of a new voice-powered assistant called Jio Call Agent. The announcement was made by Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, during the 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

MP Kesari News Desk: Designed to work directly within Jio's telecom network, the new AI assistant will be able to join phone calls, generate conversation summaries, create reminders, and even perform tasks such as booking a cab or ordering food—all without requiring users to leave the call.

What Is Jio Call Agent?

Jio Call Agent is an AI-powered voice assistant built to enhance the calling experience for Jio users. Unlike traditional AI chatbots or virtual assistants that rely on standalone apps, Jio's new service will function directly through the telecom network.

This means users won't need to download any separate application or purchase additional hardware to access the feature.

The service is expected to roll out later in 2026 and will be available to Jio's massive subscriber base of more than 500 million users.

Just Say ‘Hey Jio’ to Activate the Assistant

One of the most interesting features of the new AI service is its simple activation process.

Users will be able to invite the assistant into a conversation by saying:

"Hey Jio"

Once activated—and with the consent of everyone participating in the call—the AI assistant can begin assisting in real time.

Reliance says the feature is designed to work seamlessly during regular voice calls, making it feel like a personal assistant that is always available when needed.

Real-Time Call Transcription and Smart Summaries

A key feature of Jio Call Agent is its ability to convert voice conversations into text instantly.

The AI assistant can:

  • Transcribe calls in real time
  • Generate call summaries
  • Highlight important discussion points
  • Create action items and reminders
  • Share notes after the conversation ends

This functionality could be particularly useful for professionals, students, business teams, and anyone who regularly participates in important discussions.

Instead of manually taking notes, users can rely on AI to capture and organize information automatically.

Can Identify Multiple Speakers in Conference Calls

According to Akash Ambani, the assistant is capable of recognizing and distinguishing up to 10 different speakers during a conference call.

This advanced speaker-identification technology allows the AI to accurately attribute comments and key points to specific participants, making meeting summaries more organized and useful.

Book Cabs, Order Food and Complete Tasks Without Ending the Call

Jio Call Agent is not limited to note-taking and transcription.

The AI assistant will also be able to perform various real-world tasks while users remain on the call.

For example, users may ask the assistant to:

  • Book a cab
  • Order food
  • Reserve a restaurant table
  • Schedule meetings
  • Set reminders
  • Manage appointments

This could significantly improve productivity by allowing users to complete tasks without switching between apps or interrupting conversations.

No Separate App Required

One of the biggest advantages of the new service is that it operates at the network level.

Unlike many existing AI assistants that require:

  • Dedicated applications
  • Paid subscriptions
  • Compatible smartphones
  • Additional installations

Jio Call Agent will work directly through the company's telecom infrastructure.

This approach could make AI-powered assistance more accessible to millions of users across India.

Support for Indian Languages

Reliance has also confirmed that the service will support multiple Indian languages, making it accessible to users beyond English-speaking audiences.

This localization strategy aligns with Jio's goal of expanding digital and AI services across urban and rural India.

Reliance's Growing AI Strategy

The launch of Jio Call Agent follows several AI-related announcements made during RIL AGM 2026, including:

  • JioStar GenAI Media Studio (JAMS)
  • AI Snapshot for JioHotstar
  • Content Commerce
  • Multiview Features

These initiatives highlight Reliance's broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence across its telecom, media, and digital services ecosystem.

What This Means for Jio Users

With the arrival of Jio Call Agent, voice calls could evolve beyond simple communication and become interactive, AI-powered experiences.

The assistant promises to help users:

  • Save time
  • Improve productivity
  • Organize information efficiently
  • Complete everyday tasks faster
  • Access AI assistance without extra apps

If successfully implemented, Jio's network-based AI assistant could become one of the most widely used AI services in India.
